LEGISLATIVE ALERT: Rooftop Solar and Renewable Energy Fundraising In Jeopardy

SIGN UP FOR THE WEBINAR ON 11/16 TO LEARN MORE

We have been fine-tuning the Solar Advantage Renewable Energy Education and Fundraising Program.

We were planning on kicking it off in January 2023 to help schools, groups, and teams earn donations of $1,000 to $50,000 or more.

To get a full understanding of what is included in the program, watch this video.

That is now in jeopardy!

Please read this statement from the Solar Rights Alliance dated 11/10/22:

This morning, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) released a long-awaited, revised proposed decision about rooftop solar. The changes they are proposing are still dramatic.

We are still reading through the 240-page proposal, but below are some initial takes.

Please sign up for an in-depth webinar about the proposal next Wednesday 11/16 at 6 pm.

Key details

  • Most consumers who get solar after April 2023 will see an average 75% reduction in the credit they receive for sharing their extra energy with the grid.

  • Churches, schools, or businesses that go solar after April 2023 will see an even bigger reduction in solar credit.

  • Protections for existing solar users will remain in place with no changes (NEM1 or NEM2). The proposed changes will affect new solar users starting in April 2023.

  • There is no solar tax in the CPUC's most recent proposal. However, the proposal would require new solar users to go onto an "electrification rate" that includes a $15/month charge. (up from $11)

Our initial take:

  • The CPUC's newest proposal will still make it much harder for people who don't currently have solar to get it.

  • When changes like these have been implemented elsewhere in the U.S, solar adoptions have dropped by a lot.

  • That's what the utilities want, but it isn't good for the people.

  • We intend to push hard for changes that ensure that people who want solar are not shut out.

  • This is the last phase in our long, grueling fight to stop the utilities from squashing rooftop solar. Are you ready?

Timeline:

  • The CPUC has scheduled a final decision for their December 15th meeting.

  • Whatever they decide will go into effect 120 days after a final decision.

  • So if they decide on December 15th, it will go into effect on April 15, 2023.

Conclusion

  • What this is basically saying is that our fundraiser will have far better acceptance rates from families if they install before April 15th, 2022.

  • Your fundraiser needs to start now to be sure to get families’ installations before the deadline.

  • Let’s spread the word so we can help get your families set up before these changes take place.

  • Most of your families will get solar eventually, why not through this program from a trusted source that will also donate back to your group?

  • Call me if you have any questions.
