GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS FOR ROOFTOP SOLAR IN CALIFORNIA

We reported here on November 10th, 2022 that the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) was in the process of finalizing new legislation to change the rules for rooftop solar.

The anti-solar changes were voted on unanimously today and solar will not be as favorable for homeowners installing solar after April 15th, 2023.

Although not surprising, it is definitely a big hit to the growing industry.

Here are the key takeaways from the new legislation reported by The Solar Rights Alliance.

  • Most consumers who get solar after April 2023 will see an average 75% reduction in the credit they receive for sharing their extra energy with the grid – from an average of $.30/kWh to about $.08/kWh.

  • Churches, schools, or businesses that go solar after April 2023 will see an even bigger reduction in their solar credits.

  • The proposed changes will affect new solar users starting in April 2023.

  • Protections for existing solar users will remain in place with no changes (NEM1 or NEM2) for twenty years from the date their system is turned on.

  • There is no solar tax in the CPUC’s most recent proposal.

However, there is some good news.

If homeowners act today and choose the right solar company, they can get their installation done before April 15th, 2023, and beat the deadline.

Learn how you can beat the deadline and get your solar installed before April 15th, 2023.
